Cambria, Pismo Beach, and Morro Bay

Our next stop on our fabulous weekend getaway was Cambria. It's a beautiful little town with tall pine trees, a cliff shoreline, and a quaint downtown area located between Big Sur and Morro Bay. Ryan and I had dinner at a mexican restaurant and took a quick walk to the shoreline. There were trails on the cliffs overlooking the water, it was pretty spectacular. We even got there in time to check out a beautiful sunset. There was not much to do in Cambria except for dinner and a little stroll, but our resort did have a 9 hole golf range that looked kinda fun. But instead of golf, we decided to leave bright and early and head down to Morro Bay. We arrived in the morning when the fog still invaded the bay. As a result, we didn't get a good view of Morro Rock, but it still looked cool disappearing into the clouds. We found a trail along the beach and took that all the way to the Morro Rock lookout. After spending some time at the Rock, we left for our next stop, Pismo Beach.

I remember going to Pismo Beach in my teens and I specifically remember finding these HUGE clams along the beach. For some reason, I expected that on this trip I would get to the beach and find some of these clams. It came as a huge disappointment when I realized that there were none to be found. I guess we missed clam season. We had lunch (clam chowder) at Steamer's, a restaurant overlooking the beach and it was YUMMY! After lunch, we decided to head to our hotel in Solvang. Solvang was nice, but it was really hot. I don't do well in very hot weather, so I was content with staying indoors with the A/C. We did a little shopping, had dinner, and the next morning we headed home.

On the way home, we drove through the "Bu" (AKA Malibu). I've lived here in So Cal all my life and I have never been to Hollywood or Malibu. I can cross Malibu off my list now! We drove by Zuma Beach, which was extremely crowded that Sunday afternoon and we also drove by some very expensive homes. All in all, it was a memorable Anniversary getaway weekend! Ryan did an awesome job at planning it. I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful husband!
