Last weekend must have been the best weekend ever. It certainly makes our top 5 list. We barely made it out of San Diego the morning of the 31st. There was so much fog that our first flight was cancelled. Luckily we were rebooked on a flight that got into New Orleans around 9pm, just in time to ring in the New Year in the French Quarter. At around 11pm, we met up with Ryan's brother Zane and his friend and headed out to Jackson Square to watch the Fleur de leis drop. It was wall to wall people, but it still was fun to experience it. The purpose of this trip was not to experience New Years Eve in New Orleans, it was really for the Sugar Bowl. The couple of days leading up to the Sugar Bowl was fun, but it was nothing compared to watching the Utes destroy Alabama. We did all the "touristy" stuff like having beignets at Cafe Du Monde, watched the break-dancers and street performers do their thing, and walked up and down Bourbon street. On Friday evening we headed to the Superdome for the game. The dome was filled with Alabama fans (60K Bama and 15K Utah). Luckily we were able to shut down the crowd noise with Utah scoring 21 points in the first quarter. The Utes never looked back, they ended up shocking the nation by beating Bama 31 to 17 and became the only team in the nation to go undefeated (Yes, they should be Number 1). On the way back to hotel, I couldn't help signing the the Utah Man Fight Song! UT-AH Man Am I-I-I! Go Utes!
